The World I Knew

I thought I knew this world from sun to moon
And made in it a home, an Earthly home;
For under olive trees I saw what soon
Would be my life and of the places I'd roam.
Landscapes were vast before the horizon,
And birds had sung a song of happiness.
In sacred bliss under the timeless sun
I found the highest truth I may express:
The Form of Goodness lives in thinking thoughts.
And so, I made the world in my image,
Rebuilding homes upon the sacred spots
Where olive trees had stood to envisage
My younger self as he thought long ago
Of all the world he truly did not know.
