Use the general form and choose primary and secondary departments if you have them.

Meet the community

Attend an opening event or Pulse Lab and connect with the people doing the work you care about.

Participate as a community member, contributor, project lead, editor, or formal leader.

Make something

Pitch, submit, edit, photograph, film, design, organize, or join a supervised first assignment.

Leadership & Officers

Support an executive team, pursue Senior Editor, or apply for the open Vice President of Community & Events role.

Multimedia

Create photography, video, interviews, visual essays, and multimedia coverage across Pulse projects.

Social Media & Design

Shape campaigns, graphics, digital storytelling, audience engagement, and The Pulse’s public voice.

Sports Journalism

Cover Cal Athletics through features, interviews, analysis, profiles, and game-day reporting.

Cultural Journalism

Report on campus life, arts, culture, politics, identity, and the Berkeley and Bay Area communities.

Creative Writing

Develop and publish poetry, fiction, essays, hybrid work, and collaborative creative projects.

Applications and Placement

Anyone can attend, create, connect, and contribute. Leadership positions carry recurring responsibilities and are appointed through applications, conversations, and demonstrated follow-through.

Leadership applications open publicly.


September 5 to 16

1on1’s with department directors, supervised participation, Pulse Labs, and events.


September 14

Final deadline for first-round Fall leadership consideration


September 20

First-round appointments, provisional roles, and project placements announced.


September 21

New leaders enter the confirmed workflow
