ABOUT THE BERKELEY PULSE

What is The Pulse?

The Berkeley Pulse is an independent student media and creative organization at UC Berkeley committed to journalism, storytelling, artistic expression, and community engagement.

Mission

We cover Cal athletics, campus culture, student life, and the people shaping Berkeley’s communities while providing opportunities for students to create, publish, and grow.

Through articles, interviews, creative writing, multimedia projects, workshops, and community events, we aim to amplify voices that often go unheard and foster meaningful connections across campus.

Origins

The Berkeley Pulse began in 2025 with a simple belief: student media should be as expansive, creative, and alive as the community it represents.

Founded by UC Berkeley student Morgan Garcia, The Pulse was created to bridge worlds too often kept separate—journalism and art, athletics and culture, individual expression and collective experience. What began as a response to a gap in Berkeley’s media landscape has grown into a collaborative platform where students can report honestly, create boldly, and tell stories rooted in lived experience.

Since its founding, The Pulse has covered Cal athletics and campus culture, published student writing and art, interviewed athletes, artists, and community leaders, and produced multimedia storytelling. Beyond publishing, it has created workshops, speaker events, creative gatherings, and spaces where people can meet, experiment, and build together.

Today, The Berkeley Pulse continues to grow as a student-led media organization and creative community which is committed to rigorous storytelling, thoughtful expression, and work that keeps people at its center.
