Baseball at Night, Oil on Linen

Fluted clouds,
weary trees,
bear twilight’s descent.
Marbled pink and
dull green
like a song
you can only hum.

An old man leaning
through tired curtains.
Beyond him,
a dry diamond.
Tarnished dirt settled
below neat, white chalk.
Clean light
pours in from above.

The ace reaches
his dark arm back
and everyone
holds their breath.

The hum of electricity
and
the snap
of tawny leather.
